COMMON QUERIES
HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR TEACHING SERVICES?
Lessons are £16 for a half-hour lesson, which will suit many beginners; Hour long lessons can also be arranged at a cost of £25. Recorder groups cost £7 per session.
WHERE DO YOU HOLD YOUR LESSONS?
Lessons take place in High Street Mehodist Chapel, Penzance.
DO YOU HAVE SPECIFIC TEACHING QUALIFICATIONS?
I have a B.Ed(Hons) in Music and Education, as well as an LTCL in Music Education. When possible I attend training from ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall and other organisations to keep my knowledge updated.
WILL I BE ABLE TO TAKE EXAMS?
Students may take exams in any of the instruments that I teach, though I realise that not everyone will want to work in this way. I usually enter students for Trinity Guildhall exams, but will consider other examining boards should the need arise. Exams may be taken face-to-face or recorded. Students also have the option of taking ABRSM Music Medals which are recorded.
WHAT AGE CAN CHILDREN START LESSONS?
I have taught children as young as three years old through musical games using the piano and other instruments, often making use of the 'Dogs and Birds' piano tutor books, with their use of animal characters which makes it fun.
Children who wish to learn the recorder must be able to cover the holes of the instrument with their fingers, which will depend on their hand size. Some five year olds will be able to do this quite easily.
